Thomas Jefferson- writer of the Declaration of Independence John Adams- defended soldiers who killed unarmed civilians in the Boston Massacre; suggested a Continental Army led by George Washington; creator of the Olive Branch Petition, a document to try to make peace with King George and Britain John Hancock- president of the Continental Congress; famous for signing the Declaration in a large, bold signature Paul Revere- artist of the Bloody Massacre painting; messenger of the Midnight Ride that prepared the militia to fight the battles at Lexington and Concord Patrick Henry- patriot who unified the colonies during Continental Congress meetings; famous for “give me liberty or give me death” speech Nathanael Greene- general of the Continental Army in the south; captured General Cornwallis and forced him to surrender in Yorktown Samuel Adams- helped repeal Townshend Acts; ordered Paul Revere to draw the Boston Massacre drawing Benjamin Franklin- member of Continental Congress, represented Pennsylvania Thomas Paine- author of Common Sense and The Crisis Baron Friedrich von Steuben- retired officer who trained many inexperienced American troops at Valley Forge Marquis de Lafayette- rich Frenchman who bought supplies and food for the Americans, who lacked on a working budget In order: John Adams, John Hancock, Ben Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Nathneal Greene

William Howe- first British general of the war; offered statement for peace to Americans who wanted war to end General Cornwallis- British general who suffered defeat in Yorktown, the last major battle of the war Benedict Arnold- general of Continental Army, later defected to the British army and called a traitor General Gage- general of the British army that ordered army to seize American weapons in Concord, which led to Lexington and Concord and ultimately the war Colonel Johann Rall- The leader of the Hessians; killed in the battle of Trenton in 1776 and therefore removed the Hessians as a British ally In order: William Howe, Benedict Arnold, General Cornwallis, Johann Rall, General Gage, King George III.
